Promoter Oscar De La Hoya says he wants to put together a fight between Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Errol Spence for the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. De La Hoya feels that the two fighters will sell out the 80,000-seat Cowboy’s Stadium.

Oscar points out that Ortiz Jr. (23-0, 21 KOs) is coming off of back-to-back grueling fights against former WBA junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov on February 22nd and Serhii Bohachuk last October. He says those types of fights can be tough on a fighter.

Dallas Homecoming

As such, De La Hoya wants to have Ortiz Jr. return to Dallas for a homecoming party against a top 10 contender and then target a WBC and WBO 154-lb champion Sebastian Fundora and Terence Crawford if he returns to the weight class after his fight with Canelo Alvarez at 168.

De Hoya didn’t say whether he considers Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) a top 10 contender for Vergil Jr. to fight for his homecoming event in Dallas. That would be a great fight for the fans to get him ready for a title shot against Fundora or Crawford.

“Vergil is coming off two tough fights [Serhii Bohachuk and Israil Madrimov], which can be tough on the body as well and tough on the mind,” said promoter Oscar De La Hoya to Fighthype about Vergil Ortiz Jr.

“I’m thinking about doing a homecoming party for him in Dallas and fight a top 10 guy. Then go after Fundora and then go after Crawford after he comes back down to 154 after he fights Canelo at 168.

“There’s a lot of options out there for Vergil. I’m excited. Imagine if we can put together a Vergil-Spence fight at Dallas Stadium at the Cowboys Stadium. That would sell out the place. I think that’s something to consider as well. There’s some good options for Vergil.” said De La Hoya.
