The Detroit Lions saw a handful of key players suffer injuries during the Week 12 game against the Indianapolis Colts, including running back David Montgomery.

Montgomery got banged-up in the second half of the contest and was initially ruled questionable to return with his shoulder injury, but the Lions running back wasn’t reinserted into the game the rest of the way.

That has created at least some concern that Montgomery may not be able to suit up in Week 13 against the Chicago Bears, but there are a few reasons for optimism for his status.

Check out the latest updates on Montgomery’s status for Thursday below.

David Montgomery injury updates

Following the win over the Colts, Montgomery revealed that he could’ve gotten back in the game but the Lions held him out as a precaution, according to Colton Pouncy of The Athletic. Montgomery added that he expects to play in Week 13.

On the Lions’ estimated injury report on Monday, Montgomery was listed as a “did not practice,” but that’s not surprising considering the fact that he got banged-up  against the Colts, and with the quick turnaround for this week’s game.

After practice, head coach Dan Campbell revealed that three players who were listed on the injury report are in danger of not playing, but Montgomery was not one of them, per Pride of Detroit.

Long story short: all signs are pointing to Montgomery playing against the Bears, but we’ll continue to monitor his status in the lead up to Thursday. Check back for the next update on Tuesday, when the Lions release their next injury report.

In the event Montgomery can’t go, fellow running back Jahmyr Gibbs will see an increase in work, and No. 3 running back Craig Reynolds would spell him.
