Davante Adams is set to join his third team in the last five months, as the veteran wide receiver was released by the New York Jets after a trade couldn’t be materialized.

Adams is one of the top receivers in the free agency and should have a competitive market. Though a reunion on a new team with Aaron Rodgers is possible, NBC Sports’ Denny Carter predicts Adams will sign with the Kansas City Chiefs.

“With Rashee Rice coming off a serious knee injury and Travis Kelce fading in his advanced age, Adams could instantly become Patrick Mahomes’ top target and continue seeing valuable slot looks, though Adams and Rice could eventually cannibalize each other’s opportunities,” Carter wrote.

Though trading for Adams didn’t help the Jets capture many wins, the 32-year-old still had a solid 2024 season, as he tallied his fifth straight 1,000-yard campaign and seventh season with over 80 receptions.

The Chiefs must find quarterback Patrick Mahomes a reliable and experienced No.1 wide receiver this offseason. Adams is still one of the most consistent and productive pass catchers in football and would form a formidable duo with Mahomes.

Additionally, Adams will not cost too much to sign, as Spotrac projects the three-time first-team All-Pro selection will land a two-year deal worth $27.1 million with $13.6 million annually. Kansas City isn’t in a great financial situation, as the franchise is $3.2 million under the cap. However, general manager Brett Veach could save some money by making a few roster moves.

If the Chiefs can figure out their abysmal cap situation, the team should target Davante Adams in free agency and take their offense to the next level.
