Cut million Packers veteran to become Aaron Rodgers’ hated rival after five seasons together

Aaron Rodgers hasn’t been part of the Green Bay Packers organization for a few years now. After playing for the New York Jets, he’ll be spending this upcoming season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, this could be Rodgers’ final year in the NFL. He also has a rare chance to beat every NFL team if the Steelers defeat the Packers this season.

Despite being 41 years old, Rodgers is believed to be in the best shape of his career.

“I can say here – and I think I’m 100 percent right – [Rodgers] is in the best shape and changed his body a little bit to fit who he really is,” said Super Bowl champion Phil Simms on his podcast.

While signing Rodgers is a boost for the Steelers this season, it could pose problems down the road.

Rodgers is also set to face off against his former teammate Jaire Alexander twice this season. Alexander was recently released by the Packers after failing to reach a contract agreement and has since signed with the Baltimore Ravens.

“With Alexander joining the Ravens, he’ll see former Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers twice this year. The Steelers and Ravens cross paths in Week 14 and Week 18,” NBC’s Mike Florio wrote.

The two once battled regularly in Packers practice, but now the competition will be for real. Alexander could intercept Rodgers—or Rodgers might torch the veteran cornerback. Alexander’s release stemmed from issues over contract guarantees.

“To not have any guarantees in there was where we had the issue. It wasn’t actually the dollar amount, it was the no guaranteed money,” his father said. “It’s kind of insulting to come to a two-time All-Pro, and somebody who gave blood, sweat, and tears to you, and to not have any guarantees.”

After five seasons as teammates, they’ll now face off on rival teams with a history of bad blood. It’s shaping up to be one of the season’s most exciting matchups—potentially with major playoff implications.
