Two stunning goals in either half from Eberechi Eze and Ismaila Sarr blew Aston Villa away.

And Sarr applied the cherry on top of the cake with a third deep in stoppage time to really rub it in.

Palace could even afford the luxury of a missed spot kick from Jean-Philippe Mateta as they ran out convincing victors.

Unai Emery turned to his bench to try and revive his side with Leon Bailey and Ian Maatsen coming on for John McGinn and Lucas Digne.

Then Jacob Ramsey and Ross Barkley replaced Marco Asensio and Bouba Kamara.

Emery’s last throw of the dice was to send on Donyell Malen for Morgan Rogers.

But this was Palace’s day.

Villa just can’t beat the Eagles, who made it four wins and a draw from their last five meetings with Unai Emery’s men to deservedly book their place in next month’s final.

They simply had too much firepower and pace up front for Villa to handle as Eze, Mateta and Sarr ran riot.

Adam Wharton and Dean Henderson deserve special mentions too.

But in truth Palace, unlike Villa, didn’t have a failure.
