Cowboys urged to target 6-time Pro Bowler to pair with CeeDee Lamb

The Dallas Cowboys have a significant decision regarding the No. 2 wide receiver position this offseason. Dallas has one of the best wide receivers, CeeDee Lamb, but he needs a buddy to play alongside him.

Dallas tried to pair Lamb up with veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks the last two seasons. Cooks was productive, recording 916 yards and 11 touchdowns but only appeared in 26 games due to injuries.

Cooks is now a free agent for the first time in his career. The Cowboys have yet to show signs of resigning him for this upcoming season, leaving the No. 2 receiving position open.

If the Cowboys want to sign a veteran free agent wide receiver Jon Machota from The Athletic thinks Keenan Allen could be a nice fit.

“The Cowboys had some interest in Cooper Kupp before he signed for three years, $45 million with the Seahawks,” Machota wrote. “Dallas never was going to be a player at that number. But Allen is more affordable and could give the Cowboys a much-needed No. 2 wide receiver option. Allen, 32, had 70 catches on 121 targets last season with the Chicago Bears, totaling 744 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 starts. Cowboys defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus was Chicago’s head coach last season, so he’d know better than most if this would make sense. Dallas needs to sign or trade for a starting wide receiver or use its first- or second-round pick on the position next month.”

Allen is a six-time Pro Bowler, with his latest appearance coming in 2023 as a member of the Los Angeles Chargers. Last season, Allen was traded to the Chicago Bears, and all the 32-year-old wide receiver did was lead the team with seven receiving touchdowns.

Allen would be the veteran wide receiver the Cowboys have been looking for who can take pressure off Lamb and could open up the passing game more for quarterback Dak Prescott.
