Cowboys-Seahawks trade pitch sends $21 million former first-round playmaker to Dallas

Cowboys-Seahawks trade pitch sends million former first-round playmaker to Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys just pulled off a blockbuster trade, as the team sent a 2026 third-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers for wide receiver George Pickens. Both teams also swapped late-round picks in the deal.

Though acquiring Pickens to pair with CeeDee Lamb will greatly help quarterback Dak Prescott, Last Word on Sports’ Anthony Palacios believes the Cowboys should add another playmaker by trading for Seattle Seahawks tight end Noah Fant.

“The Dallas Cowboys got a wide receiver to help star CeeDee Lamb in the aerial attack after trading for George Pickens. This new duo could reach new heights, but they can’t ignore the tight end department. Jake Ferguson is entering the final year of his contract, and he’s on the hot seat this season after missing a few games last campaign. Fant could fill the hole if they can’t retain Ferguson due to cap issues,” Palacios wrote.

Despite being selected with the No.20 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos, Fant has underwhelmed in his career. He has never posted more than 673 yards in a season and has been incredibly inconsistent since being traded to the Seahawks in 2022 as part of the Russell Wilson deal.

Fant played in 14 games last year and posted subpar production, hauling in 48 receptions for 500 yards and one touchdown. With Seattle using a second-round pick on tight end Elijah Arroyo and Fant having just one year left on his deal, the 27-year-old’s future with the team is murky.

Though Fant is a solid tight end and could form a nice duo with Jake Ferguson, the Cowboys should avoid trading him. Dallas still has other needs that could be addressed ahead of the season, including running back, and giving up draft capital for a backup tight end wouldn’t be a very wise move from owner and general manager Jerry Jones.

Trading a Day 2 pick for Pickens was a logical move, but adding Fant at this point in the offseason wouldn’t make much sense. The Cowboys should be comfortable with Ferguson and Luke Schoonmaker as their primary tight ends in 2025.
