The Dallas Cowboys’ last year has been crazy. Head coach Mike McCarthy was replaced by offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, pass rusher Micah Parsons has not agreed to a long-term deal, and the team traded for Pittsburgh Steelers receiver George Pickens.
But the biggest storyline is what is going on with quarterback Dak Prescott.
Prescott only appeared in eight games last season due to a hamstring injury, and now the 31-year-old quarterback is looking to get back to where he was in 2023, when he threw for a league-high 36 touchdowns.
Since Prescott missed over half of last season, many quarterbacks passed him up for the best in the NFL, and Pro Football Focus’s John Kosko has Prescott as the 17th-best quarterback heading into the 2025 season.
“Prescott remains the epitome of a quarterback who thrives against weaker opponents but falters when the competition stiffens,” Kosko wrote. “He earned a 90.0 PFF grade in 2023 — behind only Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes — before a late-season collapse ended his MVP bid. In 2024, the Cowboys stumbled early, and a season-ending injury sidelined Prescott before he could rebound. To rejoin the top-10 conversation, he must recapture that 2023 form and prove he can deliver against the league’s best.”

Prescott has a lot to prove this season in a tough conference. If the Cowboys fail to reach the playoffs again, the team could consider drafting a quarterback next April to compete with Prescott.
