The Dallas Cowboys’ offense was subpar last season, and they will need to make moves this offseason to get back on track. One option is to trade for a playmaker.

The Cowboys had a below-average rushing offense and will surely be linked to Ashton Jeanty in the NFL Draft. However, they may be better off trading for an established playmaker. Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton predicted the Cowboys would trade for Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr.

“A year later, the Cowboys can right that wrong by getting back to a run-heavy or balanced attack with a trade for Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr.,” wrote Moton. “This past season, Etienne and Tank Bigsby had a near split in touches (189 to 175). With Etienne entering a contract year, the Jaguars may be willing to trade him and move forward with Bigsby as their lead ball-carrier.”

Etienne was inexplicably taking a backset to Bigsby at times last season. Spotrac projects him to earn a four-year, $32 million deal in free agency. Etienne had just 812 scrimmage yards last season. He eclipsed 1,400 scrimmage yards in 2022 and 2023. He is playing on the fifth-year option next season.

Etienne could bring a new dynamic to the Cowboys’ offense. In 2023, he scored 11 touchdowns on the ground and another through the air. He is a dual threat who could help Dak Prescott and the offense get back to their scoring ways. CeeDee Lamb, Prescott, and Etienne could be an elite trio for the Cowboys.

Adding Etienne would not cost a first-round pick and allow the Cowboys to use their first selection on a more pressing need.
