The Dallas Cowboys could be looking for a new star player to help them reach the playoffs again. They may need to trade up in the NFL Draft to ensure they can land one of the most explosive players in the draft class.
Last season the Cowboys rushing attack was among the worst in the NFL. They had the sixth least rushing yards and had just three runs of over 20 yards. They could target Heisman Trophy runner-up Ashton Jeanty in the draft. FanSided’s Lou Scataglia predicted the Cowboys would make a blockbuster trade with the Carolina Panthers to move up from No.12 to No.8 in the first round and select Jeanty.
“The Dallas Cowboys trade up into the top 10, which gives us two teams doing so in this 2025 NFL Mock Draft,” wrote Scataglia. “They unsurprisingly take Ashton Jeanty from Boise State, and Jerry Jones simply can’t help himself here. The Cowboys have had another awful offseason if you ask me – they seemed to almost push Mike McCarthy out of the door and now have Brian Schottenheimer as their head coach. A contract extension for Micah Parsons isn’t there yet, and they did seem to overpay for both CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott. With a top-heavy roster, the Cowboys really should go in a different direction here, but Jones wants Ashton Jeanty in an unsurprising move.”
Jeanty was the Heisman Trophy runner-up, Maxwell Award winner, Doak Walker Award winner and Mountain West Conference Player of the Year. He ran for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns last year. He led the FBS in rushing yards and led the Mountain West Conference in touchdowns. He could be an impact player from day one for the Cowboys.
