The Dallas Cowboys have not made any big-time moves this offseason, but a big splash could be coming. Micah Parsons is in line for a new, lucrative extension.
Parsons is a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro. He has also received Defensive Player of the Year votes every season he has been in the league, finishing as the runner-up twice. He is set to play next season on his fifth-year option, but the Cowboys will want to lock him up on a longer deal. Former NFL quarterback Kurt Benkert predicted that Parsons will earn a five-year, $225 million extension.
Parsons would become the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history. He would have an average annual salary of $45 million, surpassing Myles Garrett. His total value of $225 million would be significantly more than Nick Bosa of the San Francisco 49ers, who has a total value of $170 million.
Parsons has 52.5 career sacks, nine forced fumbles, nine passes defended, 256 tackles and 63 tackles for a loss in his NFL career. He has been arguably the best defensive player in the league over the last four seasons.
According to The Dallas Morning News’ Calvin Watkins, Parsons is indeed looking for a $200 million deal.

“As the Cowboys progress in the offseason, pass rusher Micah Parsons is expected to ask for a $200 million contract extension that would become a record for a non-quarterback,” wrote Watkins. “The request is in line with making him among the highest-paid players at his position. This offseason, Arlington native Myles Garrett signed a contract extension with Cleveland worth $160 million, the most for an edge rusher.”
The Cowboys have shown they can get this type of lucrative extension done. They have extended CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott and Trevon Diggs in recent years. However, these deals end up taking a while. Parsons is asking to be the first $200 million defensive player in history. It is an unprecedented deal, so the Cowboys could take their time.
