Cowboys made a $240 million mistake with Dak Prescott, says radio host

Cowboys made a 0 million mistake with Dak Prescott, says radio host

The Dallas Cowboys probably felt they had no choice but to pay Dak Prescott big money before the 2024 season.

But the four-year, $240 million extension should’ve been avoided, says long-time sports anchor and radio host Dan Patrick.

“I would have never given him that contract,” Patrick said on his show.

Even a year later with multiple new extensions in the books, Prescott’s $60 million per year remains the top annual average value in NFL history.

Not only did Dallas pay Prescott, they paid him more than anyone else.

The Cowboys also gave CeeDee Lamb a huge extension and are likely soon to give Micah Parsons record-setting money, too.

“As far as Dallas, I don’t have great expectations,” Patrick said. “They feel like they’re middle of the pack here. What is Jerry going to do? Where are you going to find your quarterback. That’s a mess. You would have thought it was a good financial mess to have Dak, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons. These are all great players. Dak is just a good quarterback, at times he’s been really good. But he’s 32, injury prone.”

The Cowboys’ offensive line isn’t as strong as it was at the start of Prescott’s career. The running game isn’t, either.

Dallas has a new head coach, Brian Schottenheimer.

The Cowboys’ biggest offseason acquisition was wide receiver George Pickens in a trade with the Steelers. That should help Prescott to have a true WR2 alongside Lamb.

It’s up to Dak to prove the doubters wrong.
