Cowboys’ Jerry Jones vote on tush push play revealed by NFL insider

The Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, voted on the proposal to ban the Philadelphia Eagles’ tush push play, and similar plays, today. Jones, as expected, voted to ban the play that their division rival has found great success with.

The Green Bay Packers submitted a proposal to ban the tush push play and similar plays during the Annual League Meeting earlier this spring. The proposal was tabled, and the Packers amended their proposal to ban all pushing or pulling of players in any direction, anywhere on the field. The proposal would have put an end to the tush push play, which the Eagles have made a staple of their offense over the last few seasons.

The proposal needed 24 owners’ votes to be ratified, but only got 22 votes. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cowboys were not one of the 10 teams that voted against the proposal. The 10 teams that voted against the Packers amended proposal were the Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, New York Jets and Tennessee Titans.

It is worth noting that seven of those teams play in the AFC. Only one of those teams, the Lions, are scheduled to play the Eagles next year. It is no surprise that the three teams that play against the Eagles twice a year were all in favor of the proposal.

The Eagles are not the only team that can or do run the tush push play. However, they have seemingly perfected it and have a very high rate of success running the play.

The Cowboys will simply have to find a way to stop the play better than they have in years past. Jalen Hurts and the Eagles did not “tush push” their way all the way to the Super Bowl. Their offense ran through Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. The Cowboys and other teams need to focus on shutting those three down more than the tush push play.
