The Dallas Cowboys have a bunch of needs that must be addressed this offseason, including left tackle. Tyler Guyton had a rough rookie campaign as the Cowboys’ starter at the position, and the team may look to replace the 2024 first-round draft choice with a more experienced player.
If Dallas decides to add a veteran tackle to the roster, Bleacher Nation’s Patrick K. Flowers predicts the franchise will sign Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl left tackle Ronnie Stanley in free agency.
“If Ronnie Stanley hits free agency, he should be somewhere near the top of Jerry Jones’ wishlist. Staley returned to form in 2024, posting a 79.6 PFF pass-blocking grade through the first 12 weeks of the season. Stanley will be 31 next season, but a short-term, higher AAV deal could be a perfect bridge solution for Dallas at tackle,” Flowers wrote.
Stanley has been Baltimore’s starting left tackle since entering the league in 2016 and had a solid season in 2024, allowing just two sacks and 35 quarterback pressures with a 71.0 PFF grade. The former first-round pick also started all 17 games.
Though Stanley will be 31 years old when next season begins and has had injury issues throughout his career, the 2019 first-team All-Pro selection is one of the better offensive tackles in football and would be a tremendous veteran addition by the Cowboys.
Stanley would step right in as Dallas’ starting left tackle and be an excellent blindside protector for quarterback Dak Prescott. Additionally, the former Notre Dame standout will form a formidable duo with Tyler Smith on the left side of the team’s offensive line. Smith is one of the most reliable and consistent guards in the NFL.
Signing Stanley won’t be cheap, as Spotrac and Pro Football Focus project the 2024 Pro Bowler will land a two-year deal worth around $40 million, which is an average annual salary of $20 million.
The Cowboys are estimated to have around $3 million in cap space, per Over the Cap, but owner and general manager Jerry Jones can save some money by restructuring contracts and making other roster moves.
If Dallas can figure out their abysmal cap situation, the franchise should pursue Ronnie Stanley and upgrade one of their weakest positions. The 2016 No.6 overall pick would make life much easier and more comfortable for Prescott and open up running lanes for Cowboys running backs.
