The Dallas Cowboys have lost some key players this offseason, including Cooper Rush. They could focus on adding a quarterback now that he is gone.
Rush left the Cowboys to sign with the Baltimore Ravens. With Trey Lance also a free agent, the Cowboys do not currently have a reliable backup for Dak Prescott, who is coming off a season-ending injury himself. ESPN’s Todd Archer noted there are rumblings that the Cowboys could reunite with Lance and add another backup through the draft.
“Their search for Dak Prescott’s backup could lead them back to Trey Lance with Cooper Rush gone, but they also have Will Grier on the roster. They hope to add a quarterback in the draft, too.”
Lance started the Cowboys’ final game of the season and almost picked up a win against the Washington Commanders, albeit neither team had much to play for. He went 20-34 in the game with 244 yards.
Prescott has suffered some serious injuries in his career and it’s important for the Cowboys to have a reliable backup. Rush was decent enough to keep the Cowboys competitive without Prescott, but now that he is with the Ravens the Cowboys should look for an upgrade. It would not be surprising to see the Cowboys draft a quarterback in the third or fourth round of the NFL Draft.
The Cowboys have a long list of needs in this draft, but they should not discount their need for stability behind Prescott.
