Cowboys’ Dak Prescott injury outlook given exciting news

Dak Prescott’s injury troubles threw the Dallas Cowboys’ 2024 season out of whack.

So far, so good as far as the 2025 outlook goes.

Prescott has said that he’s nearly 100 percent, and it’s still May.

By September when the Cowboys open the season on the opening Thursday night against the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles, Prescott should be good to go.

He’s been named one of Pro Football Focus’ most anticipated injury returns by writer Ryan Smith, who wrote this blurb:

The Cowboys missed the playoffs for the first time since 2020, largely due to Dak Prescott missing the final nine games of the season with a hamstring injury suffered in Week 9. Prescott has since stated that he’s “close to 100%,” leaving little doubt he’ll be ready for the season opener in Philadelphia.

Prescott was at his peak in 2023, earning a 90.0 PFF grade, fourth among 38 qualifying quarterbacks. He led the league with 38 big-time throws while limiting mistakes, posting a career-low 2.0% turnover-worthy play rate.

To support his return, the Cowboys added wide receiver George Pickens via trade from the Steelers. Paired with All-Pro CeeDee Lamb, Pickens brings a dangerous vertical presence, having logged 39 contested catches over his first three seasons — one of the highest marks in the league.

It’s been a long time since Prescott had a wide receiver duo even close to as good as Lamb and Pickens.

The key to Dallas’ season might be its running back situation. Currently, they’ve got veterans Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders in the mix along with rookies Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah.

To reach their ceiling, the Cowboys will need to solve the RB conundrum.

But they’re off to a good start. Prescott is healthy and ready to go.
