The Dallas Cowboys could find themselves trading players to acquire draft capital at some point during the season. They could trade away a player they signed just a few months ago.

This offseason, the Cowboys reunited with Dante Fowler Jr. by signing him to a one-year, $6 million deal. He had 10.5 sacks last season for the Washington Commanders. However, Pro Football Network’s Sterling Xie called him a potential trade candidate and tabbed the Los Angeles Rams as a fit.

“However, with young edge rushers Sam Williams and Marshawn Kneeland behind him, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Fowler fall back into his usual designated pass rusher role,” wrote Xie. “While the Cowboys could use help there, it’s easy to imagine Fowler becoming a tradeable asset if Dallas gets development from its young pass rushers (and potentially adds to the position group in the draft).”

If the Cowboys see enough out of their young players by the trade deadline, they could turn Fowler into a draft pick for next year. Fowler played for the Rams in 2019, when he had a career high of 11.5 sacks. The Rams could be interested in a reunion at some point this year.

“Fowler’s best year was in 2019 with the Rams, when he had a career-high 11.5 sacks and started 14 games,” wrote Xie. “While defensive coordinator Wade Phillips has since retired, Les Snead and Sean McVay are still around, so there wouldn’t be much projection into how he’d fit in Los Angeles.”

The Rams were a couple of plays away from upsetting the Eagles in the playoffs last year. They could make a move for Fowler and try to make a deeper run next season.
