Cowboys-Browns trade proposal sends  million Pro Bowl playmaker to Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys recently added a dynamic playmaker to the offense to help quarterback Dak Prescott, as the team sent a 2026 third-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers for wide receiver George Pickens. Dallas also got back a 2027 sixth-round pick.

Pickens will add some much-needed explosiveness to the Cowboys’ offense and take some pressure off CeeDee Lamb. The young receiver tallied 900 yards and three touchdowns in 2024 and posted a 1,000-yard campaign in 2023.

Though Dallas upgraded the receiver room with Pickens, they could also look to bolster the tight end room. Jake Ferguson is coming off a down year and is set to hit free agency next offseason, which is why Last Word on Sports’ Anthony Palacios lists the Cowboys as a potential trade destination for Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku.

Last season, tight end Jake Ferguson had one of the worst campaigns in his career. He’s hopeful to make a huge turnaround, even though it might seem bright after trading for George Pickens. However, anything could happen, and Njoku provides a lot of experience that the Cowboys could benefit from if Luke Schoonmaker can’t step up behind Ferguson.

Njoku has been a solid contributor in Cleveland’s offense over the last few years. The veteran totaled 64 receptions for 505 yards and five touchdowns in 11 games last year, which marked his fourth season with over 500 yards.

The 29-year-old’s most productive campaign came in 2023, where he hauled in 81 receptions for 882 yards and six touchdowns. Njoku was selected to the Pro Bowl that year and showed that he can be a reliable pass-catching option with competent quarterback play.

Dallas has already invested a ton into the pass-catching unit this offseason, but they should make a trade for Njoku if possible. The 2017 first-round pick would be an adequate security blanket for Prescott and give Brian Schottenheimer’s offense a nice trio of receivers in Lamb, Pickens, and Njoku.

With Njoku’s contract set to expire after the 2025 season, the Browns could move on. The Cowboys wouldn’t be the top landing spot in a trade for the star tight end, but it would be the most electric and fascinating destination.
