The Kansas City Chiefs clearly knew they weren’t perfect throughout this season despite winning two straight Super Bowls.
Kansas City has been decimated by injuries throughout the season so the Chiefs have continued to find ways to add even more talent on the trade marker or throughout free agency. Clearly, they’ve done something right as they currently are 13-1 on the season.
One move they made that has been solid is the acquisition of star receiver DeAndre Hopkins. He hasn’t put up huge numbers but has been steady. Hopkins has 35 receptions for 393 yards in eight games with the Chiefs. He has been exactly what the team needed.
But, he will be a free agent this upcoming offseason as his two-year, $26 million deal will expire. It would be nice if he were to return, but it’s too early to know. He surely will have options on the open market and The 33rd Team’s Tyler Brooke suggested the Washington Commanders could be the best fit for him.
“There’s an outside chance that DeAndre Hopkins will hang up the cleats if he can get a Super Bowl ring with the Kansas City Chiefs this year,” Brooke said. “However, he’ll still have an opportunity to make good money this offseason because of his resume.
“While he’s no longer the same player as he was during his time as a five-time All-Pro, Hopkins has been a solid weapon for the Chiefs. In eight games for Kansas City, he’s caught 35 passes for 393 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 1.95 YPRR. He’s also continuing to dominate on 50-50 balls, catching 11-of-20 contested catches this season, per PFF…The Commanders have tons of cap space to give Hopkins a competitive offer, and this could also allow them to draft and develop another receiver to be the successor. Best Landing Spot: Washington Commanders.”
Washington is up-and-coming and certainly could afford him. If he does decide to continue his career, though, hopefully it is with the Chiefs.
