Anthony Richardson’s shoulder injury didn’t change everything, but it sure didn’t help the third-year quarterback.
Now, he spends the rest of the offseason behind the eight-ball as Daniel Jones seeks to beat him out for the Indianapolis Colts’ starting quarterback job.
It’s creating a fascinating scenario posed by ESPN’s Dan Graziano: Has Richardson played his last snap in Indianapolis?
Here’s how Graziano answered that question:
“The Colts already brought in veteran Daniel Jones to compete with Richardson for the starting QB role, and now Richardson is dealing with an injury to his throwing shoulder — the same one that ended his rookie season early in 2023. If Richardson continues to struggle with health issues and Jones shows he can operate the offense, it’s possible the Colts roll with Jones this season and look into moving on from Richardson — the fourth pick in the 2023 draft — as early as next offseason.”

It’d be an absolute bust scenario for the Colts to cut or trade Richardson after this season, but if he doesn’t break through, they might not have a choice.
Indianapolis still hasn’t solved its quarterback woes since Andrew Luck’s shock retirement.
Richardson went in the top-five to be the solution, but instead, he completed 47% of his passes in his second NFL season.
Jones might just be a stopgap, but he’s good enough to hold off Richardson if he plays up to his ability.
And if that happens, it’ll just be another year in Indianapolis without a QB answer.
