Colts-Eagles trade proposal brings $57 million tight end to Indy

Colts-Eagles trade proposal brings million tight end to Indy

With the 2025 NFL Draft less than two weeks away, the Indianapolis Colts know what they need to address during the biggest weekend of the offseason.

Though there’s a solid chance general manager Chris Ballard uses the No. 14 overall pick on one of the top tight end prospects like Tyler Warren or Colston Loveland, there are enough needs elsewhere on the roster in which the Colts could pass on the position in the first round.

If Indianapolis fails to address the tight end position going into Day 3 of the draft, Moe Moton of Bleacher Report believes the Colts should send their sixth-round pick (No. 189 overall) in exchange for Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert.

“When (Shane) Steichen served as the Eagles offensive coordinator between 2021 and 2022, Goedert had his most productive years as a pass-catcher. He recorded a career-high 830 receiving yards in 2021,” Moton wrote. “Goedert could be a reliable, big-bodied target once again in Steichen’s offense. Indianapolis could pair him with a rookie tight end to help whoever wins the starting quarterback job between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones.”

NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that the Eagles are “holding out hope for at least a 4th-round pick,” but it’s unlikely Ballard would send that selection to Philly.

Goedert, a former second-round pick, hasn’t transformed into a game-breaking tight end the Eagles thought he would after the departure of Zach Ertz. However, he’s been a reliable option for Philadelphia as an ancillary weapon, and he’s stepped up when others around him got injured.

He’s also dealt with some ailments of his own, considering he hasn’t played a full season since his rookie campaign.

With that said, Goedert is sixth among all tight ends in receiving yards (2,620) and seventh in receiving yards per game (51.3) since the start of the 2021 season, according to Stathead. Steichen was Goedert’s offensive coordinator in 2021 and 2022 when he posted the two highest receiving yards marks of his career.

The Colts certainly need a tight end so if they go into the final day of the draft without a new addition to the room, Goedert could be an option.
