After taking a tough first-game loss against the Washington Nationals on Monday night, in Game 2, the Colorado Rockies will look to break their seven-game losing skid.
This game will mark another MLB debut as the Rockies have selected the contract of Mason Adams, a player they acquired from the Chicago White Sox in the Brenton Doyle trade. In addition, the Rockies made a number of roster moves today:
But back to RHP Mason Adams (No. 17 PuRP), who has a 2.08 ERA in three starts at Triple-A Albuquerque.
According to MLB Pipeline,
Adams stands out with his ability to spin the ball and fill the strike zone. When healthy, he features a plus low-80s curveball with downer break and a solid if less reliable mid-80s slider with similar shape. He throws his breaking balls more than his fringy two- and four-seam fastballs, which park at 90-93 mph and peak at 94. He improved his upper-80s changeup in 2024, having more success with splitter action than the mild fade it had in the past.
Adams excels at sequencing his pitches, working all four quadrants of the strike zone with the varying movement profiles of his offerings. He gets down the mound well, creating deception with extension and a flat approach angle. His No. 4 or 5 starter floor is more impressive than his ceiling.
Starting for the Nationals is Andrew Alvarez. This will be his 20th start in 2026.
The lefty has a 3.60 ERA in 80.0 IP. He’s struck out 74, walked 36, and given up four home runs. Alvarez has a 1.34 WHIP.
