With so much attention on draft night given to Travis Hunter and the shocking draft slide of Shedeur Sanders, somehow, first-overall selection Cam Ward struggled to garner headlines.
His meteoric rise from FCS Incarnate Word to perennial laughingstock Washington State before putting up video game numbers at Miami wasn’t enough to gain rabid fanfare and allow the top pick to casually slide under the radar.
But should the situation in Nashville generate more national headlines? Ward has success at all of his collegiate stops and is stepping into a wide-open AFC South.
The advantageous landscape has FOX’s Collin Cowherd making eye-popping predictions about Ward’s rookie campaign.
On a recent episode of his show “The Herd,” Cowherd predicted the 23-year-old gunslinger could lead the Titans to the postseason.
“Cam Ward is the number one person I think will change outcomes,” Cowherd said. “Cam Ward is accurate, moves, and is coachable. Miami has had some good quarterbacks, but he broke all of the records. Cam Ward changes outcomes—I think Tennessee will be a playoff team.”
As Cowherd alluded to in his more extended monologue, the Titans lost numerous games where they were clearly the more talented side, thanks to inferior quarterback play from Will Levis and Mason Rudolph.
If Ward can be a viable game manager while mixing in the occasional explosive play, Tennessee will add some tallies to the win column.
With seven AFC playoff slots, making the dance has never been easier, and with a bottom-five schedule, there is a path for Ward to turn this franchise around immediately.
