Cincinnati Open final LIVE: Jannik Sinner RETIRES from final days out from US Open sparking injury fears – latest

Sin’s sickness sadness

Jannik Sinner looked less than happy pulling out the Cincinnati Open final.

He covered his face with his towel while sitting on his seat.

And the Italian world No1 had a puzzled look on his face after his on-court interview.

Food for thought before New York’s US Open, which starts Sunday.

Was Sinner sick?

We’re hearing that Jannik Sinner could have been suffering from an illness during the Cincinnati Open final.

The umpire announced it as so, instead of an injury.

He was getting treatment on his leg at the time he pulled out, however.

Will be recover in time for the US Open

Sinner: ‘It came up worse’

Jannick Sinner’s full quotes after pulling out of the Cincinnati Open final injured – handing Carlos Alcaraz the win.

Is his dream of retaining the US Open over?

“Usually I start with the opponent but today I have to start with you guys,” he said.

“I’m super super sorry to disappoint you. From yesterday I didn’t feel great.

“I thought I would improve during the night. It came up worse.

“I tried to come out and make it at least a small match but I couldn’t handle more. I’m very very sorry for all of you.

“I know some of you on Monday maybe had to work or do something else, so I’m very very sorry.

“Of course, Carlos congrats. Another title. Not the way you wanted to win but it’s amazing what kind of season you’re producing.

“You and your whole team are doing amazing. Keep it up.

“I wish you only all the best for the U.S. Open and the rest of the season.”

Alcaraz’s touching gesture

Carlos Alcaraz showed his class at the end of the Cincinnati Open.

His first thought was to go to Jannik Sinner after his rival retired injured.

The Italian was 0-5 down at that point in the first set.

But Alcaraz’s first thought was to console his opponent.

All class.

Sad Sinner

Sinner looked devastated courtside as seen below.

He had his head in his hands after being forced to retire injured while 5-0 down.

The face of a man who is out of the US Open?

Days of doubt

We now have an agonizing wait to find out what Jannik Sinner’s US Open future holds.

He seemed to suggest he wouldn’t be there with some of his comments in that interview.

The Italian wishing Alcaraz the best for the US Open was an indication he might not be there at all.

We’re grabbing all the latest info.
