The Kansas City Chiefs offense lacked the same explosiveness it had in years past with Patrick Mahomes. They could be losing their leading rusher this offseason to make matters worse.
Kareem Hunt stepped in as a midseason pickup to help carry the load when Isiah Pacheco went down. Hunt ended up leading the team in rushing yards on the year and stayed relevant after Pacheco returned. However, he could leave in free agency as the Chiefs expect Pacheco to be back to his normal self. CBS Sports’ Garrett Podell listed the Cincinnati Bengals as a potential suitor for Hunt.
“Hunt may no longer be the bell cow back he was as a rookie in 2017, but he can be a nice complement for many offenses around the NFL,” wrote Podell.
Hunt is a veteran back who could be an asset for the Bengals. Losing him would not be the most significant loss for the Chiefs, but losing him to one of their biggest threats in the AFC could sting. Before Super Bowl LIX, the Bengals were the last team to beat the Chiefs in the playoffs.
Hunt had 728 rushing yards in 13 games, starting just eight. He also had 23 receptions, showing he can still make plays as a pass catcher. The Bengals could use him as a compliment to the weapons they already have on their offense. Hunt would not be an expensive player to bring back if the Chiefs really want to keep him around.
