Chelsea re-sign player they sold just 33 days earlier in permanent transfer

CHELSEA have re-signed Ishe Samuels-Smith 33 days after he left for sister club Strasbourg.

The defender returned to Blues before making a deadline day loan switch to Swansea City.

He first arrived at Stamford Bridge from Everton for £4million in 2023 but is yet to make a first-team appearance.

Samuels-Smith joined Strasbourg, who are also owned by Todd Boehly’s BlueCo group, at the end of July.

He featured on their bench twice, against Metz in Ligue 1 and in the Conference League against Brondby.

Chelsea and Strasbourg made the transfer announcement on September 2, a day after the transfer deadline.

The move was finalised late on Monday with the help of a deal sheet, which provides clubs with two extra hours to complete transfers.

Earlier in the window Chelsea signed Mamadou Sarr from Strasbourg before loaning him back to the French side.

Goalkeeper Mike Penders and Kendry Paez also joined on loan.

While Ben Chilwell and Mathis Amougou have made permanent transfers to Strasbourg, with the former also moving on deadline day.

Chelsea operated a similar policy last season with Andrey Santos, Djorde Petrovic, and Caleb Wiley all spending time at Strasbourg.

Strasbourg released a statement after the exit of the youngster, which read: “Racing announces the departure of Ishe Samuels-Smith, who returns to Chelsea.

Former Chelsea star Arjen Robben make his debut as a professional padel player

“The entire Racing team thanks Ishe for his commitment during his time at the club and wishes him every success for the rest of his career.”
