CHELSEA fans have hit out at the club for adding goal music to Stamford Bridge matchdays.

The idea has been slammed as “shocking” after fans heard it play during their 1-0 win over Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Richard Rios’ own goal, which was bundled in after a cross from new signing Alejandro Garnacho, was enough for all three points against old boss Jose Mourinho.

But in the aftermath of the goal, fans made it clear they were not happy about Chelsea Dagger by the Fratellis being played by stadium staff.

Many clubs across Europe play a goal song to help boost the atmosphere and celebrations when their team scores.

But many Chelsea fans argued it “doesn’t work” as one claimed goal music made him “irrationally angry”.

Another said: “That ain’t who we are or what we’re about. Not one of us wants our celebrations hindered by Chelsea dagger blaring out!”

A third added: “Playing music after a goal was a shocking idea. Chelsea need to drop it.”

And one wrote: “Every single fan should send a complaint to the club. Please put an end to that nonsense straight away. Not one person in the stadium wants that.”

Another agreed the music was a hindrance, saying: “I have to say people were shrugging their shoulders in the Lower Matthew [stand]. It absolutely kills it & takes away any natural crowd response.”

Will Jose Mourinho get Enzo Maresca the sack? | Chelsea Exposed

Earlier this year, fans protested against the American owner over his running of the club, having spent more than £1billion on players since his arrival in 2022.

He has since overseen a Uefa Conference League and Club World Cup triumph, but supporters have still raged over ticket price hikes.

The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust accused the club of “exploiting loyalty”, while there has been criticism over Boehly’s role in ticket resale platform Vivid Seats.

Chelsea’s win over Benfica came amid a tricky run of just one win in five games that has put pressure on manager Enzo Maresca.

It saw a third red card for a Chelsea player in four games after Joao Pedro was dismissed late on and the Italian warned the team must end their curse quickly.

He said: “Unfortunately it’s another red card that we need to avoid.

“Sanchez was not for a bad action, it’s just because he wants to defend the goal. Chalobah is because he wants to defend the goal.

“And tonight I think for the second yellow card, Joao didn’t even touch the other player, but the dynamic of the action is dangerous one.

“So for me personally, there is not any concern or any issue. It’s just that in the moment probably you need to take a different reason and avoid this.”
