Heading into this offseason, the Los Angeles Chargers appeared to be a few offensive weapons away from becoming a major contender. But the team is building its roster differently.
Najee Harris was signed in free agency and the team brought back former first-round pick Mike Williams, but there is a sense that the team just hasn’t done enough offensively. The NFL draft could provide a remedy for that, but not according to the 7-round mock draft put together by Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News.
He has the Chargers using seven of their 10 picks in the draft on defensive players and though fans may not love that idea, it would be the kind of draft Jim Harbaugh would love.

Fans upset that the team passed on Loveland, the player most connected to the Chargers all offseason, could be pleasantly surprised with the choice of Elijah Arroyo in round two. The Miami product has a lot of promise as a move tight end.
“The Chargers are still in the market for an upside tight end after adding Tyler Conklin for Justin Herbert, and Arroyo has some athletic go-to guy potential”, wrote Iyer.

However, the team doesn’t address the running back or wide receiver positions until late and it takes an edge rusher with two of its first three picks. The Chargers brought back Khalil Mack in free agency but moved on from Joey Bosa. Some more depth at the position is warranted, but taking Kyle Kennard after using a first-round pick on Mykel Williams would be bold.
With 10 picks in the process, the Chargers will likely be looking to just flesh out the roster with some of the later picks or they could package some of them to move up in the order.
Chargers fans could be left grumbling with a draft class that looks like this but Harbaugh and Joe Hortiz deserve patience and trust after a successful first season together.
