The Los Angeles Chargers have addressed the tight end position this offseason, but most fans are hoping for a bigger splash than Tyler Conklin.
The Chargers went 11-6 and made the playoffs last season, but that was on the strength of a good rushing attack and a defense that played better than most expected it to. What if Justin Herbert had had stronger options to get the ball to? That should have been one of the team’s primary focuses this offseason, particularly at the tight end position.
Though Will Dissly had some moments last year, the tight end group was just not good enough. The idea of Jim Harbaugh drafting Colston Loveland, who he coached at Michigan, has been a popular idea for months. But the team must prepare for the chance that Loveland won’t make it to the No. 22 pick in the first round.
An idea that seems to be building some steam is for the Chargers to trade for Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert. Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports has discussed the Eagles being open to moving Goedert and the Chargers should be on a short list of teams looking to acquire him.
Ethan Woodie of NFL Trade Rumors put together some potential trade packages for Goedert and he has the Chargers acquiring him at a reasonable price.
Chargers-Eagles trade proposal
Chargers receive: TE Dallas Goedert
Eagles receive: 2025 fifth-round pick, 2025 sixth-round pick
The Chargers would have to give up two draft picks, but they would be late picks and those are often players fighting for roster spots or looking to make the practice squad. If you can get an established veteran with nearly 350 career receptions at a position of weakness, it’s an easy deal to agree to.
Teams around the league know Dallas Goedert is available in trade and the Eagles are willing to move him

The Eagles have the luxury to make this move as they have arguably the best overall roster in the league and could shed Goedert’s salary while potentially finding an immediate successor in a stacked draft class for the position.
This seems like a win-win for both sides and those are the trades that often go from being talked about in the NFL media to actually happening.
