THE Carabao Cup first round clash between Tranmere Rovers and Burton Albion has been postponed because of a power cut.

The clash, which was due to kick off at 7.45pm at Tranmere’s Prenton Park, was called off after a major power outage.

A brief statement from Tranmere read: “This game has been postponed because of a major power outage from Scottish Power that cannot be rectified.

“More information will be provided on a new date and refunds.”

The power issues meant that Tranmere were unable to operate any tills, floodlights and some of the turnstiles.

A later statement revealed that Tranmere will hold a meeting with the EFL tomorrow morning to discuss details of the rescheduled fixture.

The announcement of the postponement came just 26 minutes before kick off.

Fans were understandably frustrated, having already arrived at the stadium to watch their teams play.

On social media, one wrote: “A joke. Just got here and been told the game is off.”

While another simply added: “Ridiculous”.

And a third fumed: “I want my money back”.

Rovers had THREE games postponed last season too, seeing matches against Accrington Stanley, Fleetwood Town and AFC Wimbledon called off.

Fleetwood and Wimbledon’s trips to Prenton Park were axed due to international call-ups, while the referee for the Accrington Stanley game judged the conditions to be too foggy to play.

Tonight’s postponement isn’t the only chaos across the opening round of Carabao Cup fixtures.

Bradford City fans were hit by travel madness after a COW shut down the motorway en route to their tie against Blackburn.

A photo taken at the scene saw a marked vehicle attempting to guide the cow safely off the M62.

However, the animal’s wellbeing came at the expense of Bradford fans, who were left pressed for time ahead of a 7.45pm kick-off.

Many were left in gridlock traffic as their movements ground to a halt.
