Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals have plenty of reasons to be excited about the 2024-25 NHL season, and fans have already been clamoring to grab tickets.

Big things could be on the horizon for DC hockey, with the Capitals flashing a shiny new toy in stud center Pierre-Luc Dubois. Washington acquired the 26-year-old in a trade with the Kings, shipping off goalie Darcy Kuemper to get the deal done.

But that’s not nearly all the moves Washington made. In total, seven players were added to the Caps’ roster this offseason, including forward Andrew Mangiapane, defensemen Jakob Chychrun and Matt Roy, and goalie Logan Thompson.

The main objective for the season: inject more offense and assimilate the new players into head coach Spencer Carbery’s system. The Caps ranked just 28th in scoring and 30th in shots on goal last season, so there’s plenty of room for improvement on offense.

Any team with Ovechkin has a good chance at making some noise, though, especially a club that makes as many moves as Washington did to support its superstar this season. The future Hall-of-Famer enters his 20th season just 42 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record of 894.
