Canelo Alvarez is rewriting the sports pay scale — and he’s doing it with ease. In 2025, the Mexican superstar will pocket a jaw-dropping £175 million ($200 million) for just two fights, thanks to a four-fight, £302 million ($400 million) deal with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. If that sounds obscene, it’s because it is — and it cements Canelo as the world’s highest-paid athlete, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, and even Dak Prescott combined.
Canelo’s deal: A staggering payday
Research from Prime Casino has determined that with this mega-deal, Canelo kicks off his year with a DAZN PPV Cinco de Mayo bout against William Scull, followed by a superfight with Terence Crawford. Canelo’s earnings break down to £14.58 million ($17.8 million) per month, £479.5k ($555k) per day, and £19,977 ($23,000) per hour. That’s £333 ($380) every minute. Not bad for a couple of fights.
“I’m in a place I’ve always dreamed of,” Canelo said. And the numbers prove it.
With this mega-deal, Canelo leapfrogs athletes like Cristiano Ronaldo (£171 million / $200 million), Jon Rahm (£150 million / $175 million), and Oleksandr Usyk (£90.7 million / $105 million) on the rich list, all of whom have their own Saudi-backed deals. Saudi Arabia, once again, is picking up the tab.

The competition — and why they can’t keep up
-
Cristiano Ronaldo (£171M / $200M) — the only one close, with his hefty Al-Nassr deal.
-
Jon Rahm (£150M / $175M) — no wins, but LIV Golf’s payout keeps him rolling.
-
Oleksandr Usyk (£90.7M / $105M) — two heavyweight title fights with Tyson Fury made 2024 a lucrative year.
-
Neymar (£81.6M / $95M) — injuries couldn’t stop him from cashing in with Al-Hilal.
-
Dak Prescott (£65.3M / $75M) — the Dallas Cowboys QB’s fat contract puts him on the list.

Canelo has set the bar — and right now, no one is close. The question is, with this much money coming in, does he even need to box anymore? Or is it all about adding to the legacy at this point?
