It was a better year for the Montreal Canadiens, who currently have 80 points heading into the final two games of the season.
For a Canadiens team that’s looking to improve in the near future, this could be an important offseason for them, and the signs were positive in 2024-25.
After finishing last in the Atlantic Division a season ago with 76 points, the Canadiens took a positive step forward and look to be a team to watch out for.
However, until they make another move or two, it’s uncertain where the Canadiens stand.

“It’s clear the team could use some reinforcements down the middle of the ice… “He’s no spring chicken, but Tavares is still a very good player, which much of his impact coming via his powerplay usage. He’s also a talented playmaker, which would suit a winger such as Demidov.
“But Tavares is more than just a playmaker, as evidenced by his 493 NHL goals. By adding a player of his ilk, the Habs wouldn’t just find a great center for Demidov, they’d be ensuring there’s more than just one scoring threat on the ice, which in turn, should lead to a lot of open ice for his teammates,” Marc Dumont wrote.
Tavares, 34 years old, has proven throughout his career to be an elite player. After being the first overall pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, he’s done nothing but put together a solid career for himself, posting 1,114 points.
In 2024-25, he’s posted 74 points and has been a big reason why the Maple Leafs are in the position they’re in.
