Cameron Young Wins First PGA Tour TItle at Wyndham

Cameron Young Wins First PGA Tour TItle at Wyndham

After seven runner-up finishes, Cameron Young has finally secured his first PGA Tour title at the Wyndham Championship. He carded a two-under 68 to close out a dominant week at 22-under-par, winning the tournament by six shots and tying the tournament’s scoring record in the process. It’s a long-awaited moment for the 28-year-old New Yorker who’s been chasing this win since turning pro.

Young Surpasses All Expectations

Heading into the weekend, Cameron Young wasn’t among the favorites to win it all. While names such as Matt Fitzpatrick, Aaron Rai, and Ben Griffin headlined the betting boards, he was positioned in the top 20.

Naturally, big tournaments like the Wyndham Championship attract plenty of interest from sports bettors. With the last ten PGA events having been won by players who notched their first or second career wins, Young was already on their lists, but he was still far away from being seen as a real favorite.

As the weekend progressed and credit card betting sites started seeing more activity, more fans jumped on the Young bandwagon and by Sunday morning, his odds changed in a big way.

For those who decided to put their money on Young, it proved to be the right decision as he delivered a calm, confident final round to seal the victory.

A Hot Start That Ended All Doubt

Going into the final round, Young had a five-shot lead and held the 54-hole lead for the first time on the tour. After tapping in the final putt, he made history, becoming the 1,000th different winner of the PGA Tour.

Finishing at 22-under 258, Young also tied the solo scoring record held by J.T. Poston and Henrik Stenson.

While there was plenty of drama at Sedgefield Country Club, not much took place at the very top of the leaderboard.

Young got off to a nice start with five straight birdies after an opening bogey. After that stretch, he cruised with nine straight pars and a pair of bogeys on the back nine. However, he still had enough breathing room from the lead he built early on.

After the final putt, Young jokingly said that he didn’t know where to go as he began to walk off the green.

With the total prize purse for the event being $8.2 million, Young will take home the $1.476 million top prize.

The New Golf Ball for Young

Coming into the Wyndham Championship, Young made a key equipment change, adding a new golf ball to his arsenal. He was previously playing Pro V1 Left Dot, but has now switched to a prototype version of the Pro V1x.

The decision to use the new golf ball came after a testing session at Titleist’s Manchester Lane facility. Young noticed improved control and feel, and was impressed enough to ask the team to place the new balls in this locker.

Young said that the switch to the new ball definitely contributed to some of the good play during the week, adding that he’s excited to use it in the next few weeks too.

Young also made an earlier adjustment to his equipment by switching to the new Golf Pride MCC Align Max grip. His win at the Wyndham marked the second PGA Tour victory of the season with that grip, following Harris English’s win at the 2025 Farmers Insurance Opens at Torrey Pines.

Ryder Cup Still in Reach

Young’s Wyndham victory also came at the perfect time. With the Ryder Cup just around the corner, he can still secure a spot in the team USA.

He has now moved to no. 15 in the Ryder Cup standings, but he still has two more FedEx Cup playoff events to make his case. He’s seen as an ideal fit at Bethpage Black, where in 2017, he became the first amateur to win the New York State Open.

Young was previously bypassed for a spot on the U.S. team for the Ryder Cup in 2023 despite being ninth in points. With Bethpage Black being his favorite place to play golf and an extremely strong performance this week, Young is making it harder to get overlooked again.

He said that the place on the team USA is something many players are chasing and that he would love to get selected. He added that he still has more opportunities to earn his way on the team.
