Cam Heyward has 8-word message for Steelers fans after George Pickens trade

Cam Heyward has 8-word message for Steelers fans after George Pickens trade

Last week, the Pittsburgh Steelers completed one of the most intriguing trades of the offseason, sending wide receiver George Pickens and a 2027 sixth-round pick to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth.

The deal was the fallout from Pittsburgh acquiring DK Metcalf in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks earlier in the offseason. Both deals leave the Steelers with a wide receiver room that still boasts some talent, including Metcalf, Robert Woods and Calvin Austin III as their top three.

While many Steelers fans and NFL analysts have questioned Pittsburgh’s decision-making to this point, Steelers defensive lineman had a message for those who aren’t fully onboard.

“I’m sure guys have talked about it, but I think the main thing is, and this is a PSA for all Steeler fans: don’t panic, stay patient, we’ll get to work,” Heyward said on his show “Not Just Football with Cam Heyward” this week. “I think sometimes we can jump off the ship and think the ship sinking. We got work to do. And, you know, whoever won the offseason isn’t gonna win the regular season, is not gonna win the Super Bowl.

“So, I’m locked in on that, locked in on having a good year, and I hope my teammates are too.”

It shouldn’t be too surprising that most people are having a hard time seeing the vision for the Steelers in 2025. Not only did they just make their wide receiver room worse in the last week, but they’ve yet to really add a legitimate starting quarterback.

At the time of writing this, the Steelers have 2025 sixth-round pick Will Howard, veteran backup Mason Rudolph and borderline NFL quarterback Skylar Thompson in the room. They may still get lucky and have Aaron Rodgers land in their lap, but even that will come with its own challenges.

Unless Pittsburgh expects fans to go through one real down year to hopefully secure their quarterback of the future in what’s expected to be a loaded draft for the position in 2026, the plan for the 2025 season doesn’t make a ton of sense.
