Cadillac suffers double BoP hit for WEC Austin

Cadillac has received a double Balance of Performance hit for its home race in Austin this weekend after scoring a maiden World Endurance Championship victory at Interlagos in July.

The Jota team’s pair of Cadillac V-Series.R LMDhs will go into the Circuit of the Americas WEC round on 7 September with minimum weight increased by 19kg and base power decreased by 5kW (6.7bhp) compared the previous round of the WEC in Brazil in which they finished 1-2.

Minimum weight for the Cadillac is now 1059kg and base power 511kW (685bhp), though there has been a slight shift in favour of the V-Series.R under the power gain element of the BoP that adjusts power above 250km/h (155mph).

Porsche, which finished third behind the Caddys in Brazil, has also been hit on power and weight for the Lone Star Le Mans six-hour race in Austin under the BoP, the means by which the playing field is levelled in the WEC’s Hypercar class.

Its 963 LMDh will race at a 1065kg minimum, up 12kg on the Sao Paolo event, while base power is down 13kW (17bhp) to 488kW (654bhp).

Cadillac and Porsche are also the biggest losers under the latest BoP in comparison with the corresponding fixture at Austin last year.

Cadillac has the largest weight increase year on year, 22kg, and Porsche the largest power decrease of 21kW.

The base power figures for the Alpine A424 and BMW M Hybrid V8 LMDhs are also down: the Alpine has lost 6kW and the BMW 8kW.

Ferrari’s BoP for the 499P Le Mans Hypercar, winner of the opening four WEC rounds this season, is unchanged from Interlagos where it scored a best result of eighth.
