The Denver Broncos have many options to consider this offseason when deciding which players to add to their offense ahead of the 2025 season.
After many years of mediocre offensive play, the team was able to turn it up a notch in 2024 with Bo Nix at quarterback. But a trip to Buffalo in the Wild Card round showed the team that there is still plenty of ground to make up.
The Broncos need to address all of the major offensive positions this offseason (running back, wide receiver and tight end). It is expected that the team will do that in free agency and the NFL draft, but trades can always be considered as well. Deebo Samuel, a player frequently connected to the Broncos since asking the San Francisco 49ers for a trade this offseason, was dealt to the Washington Commanders on Saturday.
With Samuel off the board, there are still other big-name wide receivers who could be moved this offseason. One of those is Cooper Kupp of the Los Angeles Rams. It has been predicted that the Broncos could have interest in acquiring Kupp from L.A. and Timothy Rapp of Bleacher Report still feels that way. He lists the Broncos along with the Cowboys, Texans and Steelers as the best landing spots for Kupp.
“It’s no secret that head coach Sean Payton wants to add a player in the “joker” role this offseason, someone who can impact the game as both a runner and receiver. Kupp wouldn’t fit that role, obviously.
But the Denver Broncos need more weapons on offense, full stop. Tight end is a major need, but so is upgrading at wideout. While Courtland Sutton remains solid—and Marvin Mims Jr. has shown flashes as a deep threat—adding a reliable player in the slot like Kupp would undoubtedly make life easier for young quarterback Bo Nix”, wrote Rapp.
The move would make sense for the Broncos, depending on the compensation the Rams would be looking for in return. They have a solid veteran on the outside in Courtland Sutton and Kupp could come in and dominate the slot, which he has become known for.
Kupp would be the perfect type of receiver for Nix to throw the ball to as he excels in the short to intermediate passing game. Kupp is one of the best receivers in the league at getting separation across the middle of the field and that could give the second-year quarterback an incredible weapon this coming season.
Kupp, the 2021 NFL Offensive Player of the Year, caught 67 passes for 710 yards and six touchdowns in just 12 games last year. For his career, he has 634 receptions for 7,776 yards and 57 touchdowns. Since 2017, only six receivers (Davante Adams, Travis Kelce, Keenan Allen, Tyreek Hill, Stefon Diggs and DeAndre Hopkins) have more receptions than Kupp.
