This offseason has been extremely busy for the New York Jets, who have brought in a new front office, coaching staff and starting quarterback after finishing their 2024 campaign with a 5-12 record and in third place in the AFC East.
Last year, New York’s defense recorded sacks on 7.62% of opposing quarterback dropbacks, good for the seventh-highest rate in the NFL. However, their defensive front wasn’t the best against the run, surrendering 121.1 yards per game on the ground (17th).
Since the start of the new league year, the Jets have watched some key pieces of their front seven find new homes, including Haason Reddick, Javon Kinlaw, Solomon Thomas and Leki Fotu, while Sam Eguavoen, Bruce Hector, Chazz Surratt and C.J. Mosley have yet to sign elsewhere but remain on the market.
However, Pro Football and Sports Network’s Sterling Xie predicted on Wednesday that Mosley will land with the Denver Broncos this offseason.
Mosley, 32, played collegiately at Alabama from 2010-13, earning All-SEC and All-American honors twice. He also won the SEC Defensive Player of the Year Award, the Butkus Award (given to the top linebacker in college football) and two national championships.

The Baltimore Ravens selected Mosley in the first round (No. 17 overall) of the 2014 NFL draft. In five years with the club, he recorded 579 tackles (43 for a loss), 35 passes defensed, 32 quarterback hits, nine interceptions, 8.5 sacks, six forced fumbles and six fumbles recovered while making four Pro Bowls and four All-Pro teams.
Mosley inked a five-year, $85 million contract with the Jets in 2019, but injuries limited him to just 56 games over the last five seasons (six years, including the 2020 season that he opted out of due to the COVID-19 pandemic). He recorded 504 tackles (12 for a loss), eight quarterback hits, four forced fumbles, 3.5 sacks, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries while making a fifth Pro Bowl and All-Pro team.
New York released Mosley with a post-June 1 designation earlier this offseason, so they’re likely not expecting the veteran to return to the team on a better deal.
Denver lost Dre Greenlaw in free agency and are poised to lose Zach Cunningham, who is still unsigned to this point. While they’ve added former Tennessee Titans linebacker Cody Barton, they could use more help to keep their defensive front as one of the best in terms of rushing the passer and stuffing the run.
