The Denver Broncos will target the offense extensively this offseason to find Bo Nix some elite weapons to get the ball to. But on the defensive side of the ball, the safety spot should not be overlooked.

The Broncos signed Brandon Jones last offseason in free agency after cutting both Justin Simmons and Caden Sterns. That was a risky move, but the team placed a lot of faith in P.J. Locke following those moves. Jones had a great season for the Broncos but Locke left a lot to be desired.

Locke is a great special teams player and he can come onto the field in spot duty, but he’s not an every-down safety. The Broncos need to find one of those in free agency and the name of Jevon Holland has been a popular one for the team to consider.

But in addressing the team’s upcoming offseason, Broncos insider Mike Klis mentioned the name of Camryn Bynum and that is one that you probably have not heard in connection with the Broncos to this point.

“A starting inside linebacker may also addressed in free agency. And the Broncos will explore picking up a starting safety in free agency. Minnesota’s Camryn Bynum is among the possible candidates”, wrote Klis.

Bynum is an intriguing option. After playing out his rookie contract with the Minnesota Vikings, he looks like one of the best young safeties in the NFL. A fourth-round pick out of California in 2021, Bynum has 321 career tackles and eight interceptions.

He is expected to be highly sought-after by other teams and he will be seeking a lucrative deal. Spotrac projects Bynum to get a deal worth nearly $18 million per season. By comparison, the contract the Broncos signed Jones to last year averaged less than $7 million annually.

If the Broncos were able to pull off this deal and add Bynum to what is already a solid secondary, the move would have to be met with high grades.
