The Denver Broncos are beginning to seem like a bit of a wild card in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Recent mock drafts have the team going in a number of different directions with the No. 20 overall pick, while some have them trading it away.
Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports put together his most recent mock draft, dubbing in the ‘What I would do’ mock and he would be hearing the cheers from Broncos Country for hours if his prediction came true.
This is a “what I would do mock.” I repeat, this is simply a “what I would do mock.” Many of the picks — and locations of the prospects — will be drastically different than what you’ve been reading for the last few months”, wrote Trapasso.
It’s not your conventional mock draft. But it’s fun. And so is his pick for the Broncos. With the No. 20 overall selection, he has the team selecting Boise State running back Ashon Jeanty. There have been some mock drafts throughout the draft process that have had the Broncos nabbing Jeanty, but it’s an idea most feel has no chance of happening at this point.
Yes, a running back in the first round. It works here for a few reasons beyond Jeanty’s massive talent. Sean Payton would work him into space in the screen game, the Broncos have a strong offensive line, and Bo Nix needs a true bell cow in his offense”, wrote Trapasso.
He’s correct, but he’s also quite casual with his assessment. The Broncos’ offense could go from emerging to dynamic with this selection. The team added Evan Engram to fix the tight end position this offseason and with him and Courtland Sutton to throw the ball to, Nix just needs a capable running back to help take some of the pressure off of him.

Jeanty is much more than capable. He had one of the best seasons a running back has ever had in college football last season (2.601 yards, 29 touchdowns) and he can contribute in the passing game too. He would be the day one starter in Denver with the ability to be a top-five running back in the entire league in his rookie season. That is how good the talent level of Jeanty is.
He remains a long shot to wind up in Denver, but until his name is called, there will likely be many fans inside Broncos Country crossing their fingers in hopes he slides down the board.
