Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers is on the cusp of making history going into the Week 14 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as he’s closing in on the single-season receptions record for a rookie tight end.
The record is currently held by Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta, who had an NFL best of 86 in 2023, breaking the previous record held by Keith Jackson, who had 81 in 1988.
Bowers enters the game against the Bucs with 84 catches on the season, which means he needs just two receptions to tie the all-time rookie record and three to break it.
Once he inevitably surpasses that record, Bowers will have his sights set on the all-time rookie tight end record for receiving yards, which is held by Chicago Bears legend Mike Ditka, who had 1,076 in 1961. Bowers has 884 going into Sunday.
One rookie record Bowers is unlikely to hit is the all-time single-season record for most receiving touchdowns by a rookie tight end, a record Ditka also holds with 12. Bowers has just four through 12 games.
Here’s a look at Bowers’ numbers entering Week 14 as compared to the all-time rookie records for tight ends.
UPDATE: Bowers has officially broken the all-time single-season record for the most receptions by a rookie tight end after recording three on Sunday.
Stat | Bowers’ total | Rookie TE record |
Receptions | 87 | 86 |
Receiving Yards | 933 | 1,076 |
Receiving TDs | 4 | 12 |
