Brentford boss Keith Andrews lifts lid on Yoane Wissa’s turbulent Newcastle transfer and summer sulk

BRENTFORD boss Keith Andews has called Yoane Wissa’s summer exit ‘unsavoury’.

The DR Congo international, 29, joined Newcastle United in a controversial £55million deal in September after going on strike at Brentford.

When asked about the manner of Wissa’s exit Andrews said: “I think it was unsavoury.”

It was no secret that the Congolese forward was desperate to leave West London for St James’s Park.

Andrews explained: “There was always an eagerness from Yoane to go to Newcastle, that was his primary destination.

“He made that very apparent throughout pre-season.”

The Northern Irishman highlighted how the January window was “a lot less stressful than the last.”

This was undoubtedly in reference to his old frontman who forced his way out in the summer.

Andrews added: “I don’t think it takes a genius to work out what that was like and how tricky that window was.”

Since his move, Wissa has netted a mere three goals in 17 appearances, scoring once in the Premier League.

By contrast, his replacement at Brentford Igor Thiago, 24, has hit the ground running for the Bees.

“He’s been immense in every way” said Andrews.

Thiago has scored a staggering 16 goals in his first Premier League season. Only Erling Haaland has more goals than the Brazilian this term.

This puts him three goals away from Wissa’s most prolific season in which he netted 16.

Wissa comes up against his old side this Saturday when Newcastle host Brentford in the 5.30pm kick off.

Brentford make the trip to the North East having beaten Aston Villa with 10-men last time out.

Wissa’s Newcastle have not won in four matches.
