After blowing Game 4, the Panthers came back with a commanding 5-2 win in Game 5 over the Oilers, putting them up 3-2 in the series.

Leading the way for Florida was Brad Marchand, as the veteran forward scored two huge goals. In that span, Marchand increased his Stanley Cup Final goal total to six, reaching rarified air in NHL history along the way.

This is Marchand’s fourth ever Stanley Cup Final, and his experience is proving to be important for the Panthers. Here’s how Marchand performed on Saturday night.

Marchand has been on a roll in the Stanley Cup Final, and that continued on Saturday night in Game 5. The Panthers won the game 5-2, and Marchand was at the center of the action with a pair of goals.

With his first goal, Marchand joined Mario Lemieux as the only players since 1959 to score five goals or more in multiple Stanley Cup Final matchups.

He also became the first player to score six goals in a Stanley Cup Final since 1988.

At the NHL trade deadline, the Bruins traded Marchand for a future draft pick, ending the forward’s longstanding career in Boston. The Bruins were not going to make the playoffs this year and decided to trade Marchand instead of continue negotiations on a new contract.

Brad Marchand is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, which is part of the reason why the Bruins traded him. Marchand was previously playing on an eight-year, $49 million contract that began in 2016 and ran through this year.

Marchand turned 37 years old last month and is the oldest player on the Panthers. However, he is still performing at a high level despite his age.

Marchand has hoisted one Stanley Cup in his career, winning it all with the Bruins back in 2011. That was just his second season in the NHL and his first full season in the league, as he played just 20 games during his rookie season the year prior.
