She’s been on a professional boxing journey for almost nine years, and on Saturday, March 22nd, Tiara Brown traveled to Sydney, Australia, and had her career-defining moment as she defeated Aussie boxer Skye Nicolson (12-1, 1 KO) by way of split-decision and won the WBC Featherweight world title.
Prior to the bout, Skye Nicolson and Tiara Brown exchanged words on social media, and they shared very intense face to face encounters during the various press conferences. On fight night it was a battle between two undefeated fighters and unfortunately for Nicolson her 0 had to go.

A native of Fort Myers, Florida, Tiara Brown initially relocated to the Washington, DC, area for boxing, but when she noticed a lot of police officers around the boxing gyms, she decided to pursue a career in law enforcement. Brown would balance her time by working during the day and training at night.
As a result of hard work and dedication, Tiara Brown was named Metropolitan Police Department of Washington D.C. 2018 Officer of the Year. A few years later, Tiara Brown decided to resign from her job in order to focus more on her career in boxing.
With a boxing style that includes aggression, good punch placement, and a steady work rate, Tiara Brown continued to win and enhance her portfolio. Brown’s focus and determination paid off as she received her first shot at a world title on Saturday, March 22nd.
In the opening round of the championship bout, both fighters went through the feeling out process as they both attempted to establish the jab.
Brown turned up the aggression in the second round as she pressed forward and landed a couple of punches to the body.
As the second round was coming to a close, Nicolson connected with a clean left-hand shot. Early in the third, Brown landed a solid right hand, but Nicolson responded by landing a couple of shots to the body.
The challenger Tiara Brown continued her quest to cut off the ring in the fourth, but the defending champion Skye Nicolson circled around the ring and landed her trademark jab. Brown had a good sixth round as she consistently landed shots to the body of Nicolson.
In the 7th round, Brown got inside and connected with a nice three-punch combination. During the championship rounds Brown continued to press forward while Nicolson continued to fight off the back foot, but Nicolson was clinching for the majority of those rounds.
At the conclusion of the 10-round contest, it was time to go to the judge’s scorecards. One judge had the bout scored 96-94 for Nicolson, but that card was overruled by the other two judges as they scored the bout 96-94, and 97-93 in favor of Tiara Brown.
With the victory, Tiara Brown (19-0, 11 KOs) became the new WBC world featherweight champion. Brown plans on celebrating the win by eating cookies and cupcakes, but once the celebration is over, she will have to contemplate the option of a rematch with Skye Nicolson or a unification bout with one of the other champions.
