EBU Euro featherweight champion Cristobal Lorente (20-0-3 (8 KOs) and WBC Silver featherweight champion Nathaniel Collins (17-0-1 (8 KOs) fought to a split 12-round draw last Saturday night, on October 4, at the Braehead Arena, in Glasgow, Scotland. Collins looked like the winner at the end.

Early Dominance: Collins Controls the Opening Rounds
In the first three rounds with all judges and the referee from Europe, as a southpaw, Collins was the aggressor, taking all the rounds outlanding the taller Lorente. In the fourth round, after a minute, becoming more aggressive, a right from Lorente rocked Collins, having an edge at the end.
In the sixth round, a “war broke out with both having their ways. In the seventh and eighth rounds, the action continued going back and forth, with Collins ahead in the seventh and Lorente ahead in the eighth. In the ninth and tenth rounds, it went back and forth with Lorente having a slight edge.
In the eleventh round, Collins would land well, which made Lorente come back, then hit with combinations well in another close round, with Collins up. In the twelfth and final round, both looked exhausted after such a hard fight, and both were still punching at the bell.
The scores were 115-113 Collins, 115-113 Lavorante, and 114-114. Giuseppe Quartarone was the referee.
O’Doherty Stops Glackin in Tenth to Capture Lightweight Gold
In the co-feature, former BBBofC Celtic lightweight champion Regan ‘The Shark’ Glackin (16-1 (3 KOs) was stopped by former BBBofC English lightweight champ Louie O’Doherty (11-0 (3 KOs) at 2:33 of the tenth round of a scheduled 12 rounds, for the vacant BBBofC lightweight title.
In the first round, neither boxer felt out, to the delight of the crowd, in a close round. In the second through the fourth rounds, O’Doherty was the aggressor, outscoring Glackin. In the fifth round, Glackin finally had an edge.
In the sixth round’s halfway point, O’Doherty drew blood from the nose of Glackin, taking the round. From the seventh through the ninth, O’Doherty was beating Glackin down. In the tenth round’s final minute, Glackin’s corner waved it off, forcing referee Steve Gray to call a halt.
Hutchinson Returns with Statement KO over Jeffers
Former WBC Silver and international light heavyweight champ returning after a year Willy Hutchinson (19-2 (14 KOs) knocked out former English champion Mark Jeffers (20-2 (7 KOs) at 2:15 of the seventh round of a scheduled 10 rounds.
In the first three rounds, Hutchinson had an edge. In the fourth round, Jeffers came back well in the infighting with local favorite Hutchinson. In the fifth round, Hutchinson, turning southpaw and showboating, outscored Jeffers.
In the seventh round’s final minute, a Hutchinson right knocked the head of Jeffers back. He followed with a flurry of punches, forcing referee John Latham to call a halt.
Aston ‘Bam Bam’ Brown, 9-0 (4) knocked out southpaw former IBO champ Paul Kean (19-5 (2 KOs) at 1:36 of the second time of a scheduled 10 rounds for the vacant BBBofC Celtic middleweight title.
In the first rounds, near the midway point, Brown landed a right to the head, followed by a flurry of punches, having Kean against the ropes, drawing blood from his nose. In the second round’s midway point, Brown dropped Kean with a right on the chin for an 8-count from referee Lee Every.
Brown went right after Kean, dropping him again with a right to the body, followed by a right on the chin, dropping him a second time, waved off by Referee Every.
Super bantamweight Marcus Sutherland, 9-0 (6) knocked out Karim Agius (5-1-2) at 1:15 of the first round of a scheduled eight rounds.
In the first round, after a minute, a right from Sutherland on the chin almost dropped Agius. Sutherland was landing unanswered punches when referee Kevin McIntyre called a halt, for the vacant Commonwealth Silver super bantamweight title.
Light heavyweight Steve Collins, Jr. (15-6-1 (4 KO) lost to Javier Santana (4-2-2 (1) by a six-round points decision.
In the third round, Santana’s counter knock-out knocked out Collins’s mouthpiece, winning another round. From the fourth through the sixth rounds, Santana dominated Collins.
Referee Kenny Pringle scored 60-55.
Light welterweight Reece ‘Lightning’ Lynch (2-0 (1 KO) defeated Jakub Laskowski (6-38-1 (3 KOs) by a six-round points decision.
In the first four rounds, southpaw Reece outlanded Laskowski, who switches to southpaw at times.
In the fifth, Laskowski started coming forward as Reece, with his hands to his side, and used his jab to win another round. In the sixth and final round, Reece kept trying for a stoppage, settling for the win.
Referee Kevin McIntyre scored it 60-54.
Super featherweight Yandiel ‘Chinito’ Lozano (2-0) easily defeated a game Mario Victorino Vera (8-9 (3) by a six-round points decision, scoring the lone knockdown.
A minute into the first round, a flurry of punches from Lozano dropped Vera for an 8-count from Referee Kevin McIntyre. Lozano claims over 100 wins in the amateurs. Rounds two through four were all Lozano going to the head and body of Vera.
In the fifth round, no quit in Vera, whose swelling around the left eye is getting worse. In the sixth and final round, Lozano continued winning.
Referee McIntyre scored it 60-54.
Welterweight 19-year-old Drew ‘White Sugar’ Limond (5-0 (2) stopped Alexeyv Leon (4-14-1 (2) at 1:43 of the fourth and final round.
In the first three rounds, Limond dominated Leon. In the fourth and final round, after a minute, Limond landed well to the body and head. Referee Kenny Pringle suddenly stopped the fight. Limond is the son of Willie Limond, a former British and Commonwealth champion.
Super middleweight Alex Arthur, Jr. (2-0) defeated southpaw Grzegorz Mardyla (1-3-1 (1 KO) by a four-round points decision.
In the first three rounds, Arthur outworked Mardyla. In the fourth and final round, Mardyla held his own in a losing round. Arthur, the son of the former WBO super featherweight champion, worked the corner.
Referee Kenny Pringle scored 40-36.
Junior middleweight John Joe ‘Star Boy’ Carrigan (1-0 (1 KO) knocked out David Przybylski (2-3 (1 KO) at 2:56 of the first round of a scheduled four rounds.
In the first round, 18-year-old Carringan came out southpaw in a slugfest when he suffered a cut on his right eyebrow from a clash of heads. In the final seconds, he landed a flurry of punches, having Przybylski against the ropes and finally down as referee Kenny Pringle counted him out.
