Last Saturday, March 22nd, during the prelims of the Sebastian Fundora vs Chordale Booker card, we got a glimpse into the future as the Mayweather Promotions duo of the 6’2″ junior-middleweight Joseph “The Prodigy” Brown and the 5’4″ lightweight Jursly “The Gorilla” Vargas both collected impressive victories.
It was the classic combination of thunder and lightning as Vargas displayed the power and Brown showcased his speed and overall skill set. Vargas and Brown, are both putting in the time at the gym, they’re staying active inside of the squared circle, and both are dominating each boxing match they’re involved in.
A native of Curacao who also spent some of his upbringing in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Jursly Vargas made his pro debut in November 2022. In the opening round of his debut, Vargas hit his opponent so hard that the punch caused his opponent to do a 180-degree turn.
Vargas proceeded to land devastating power shots and scored a highlight reel-style knockout that went viral. A couple of weeks later, Floyd Mayweather reached out to Vargas, and then a few weeks after that, Vargas signed with Mayweather Promotions.
His stablemate Joseph Brown was born in Vero Beach, Florida, but at a young age, he and his family relocated to Toronto, Canada. The multi-talented Joseph Brown posted an overall amateur combat sports record of 67-0.
Joseph Brown had a decorated amateur career as he would win multiple national championships in boxing and a world championship in Muay Thai. He would make the decision to bypass the Olympics, and at the age of 17, Brown signed on with Mayweather Promotions.
Back in November 2024 both Joseph Brown and Jursly Vargas were featured on the Swift Promotions card which was tagged as ‘Tale Of Garcia 4.’ Brown scored a decisive unanimous decision victory while Vargas stopped his opponent in the 4th round.
On March 22nd both Jursly Vargas and Joseph Brown would add to their knockout totals. Vargas got things started when he landed a hard left hook that dropped his opponent Uhlices Reyes down to one knee in the 4th round. Reyes was counted out, and Jursly Vargas improved to a record of (5-0, 4 KOs).
Joseph Brown’s bout against Ezequiel Duran lasted a little longer as they made it all the way to the sixth and final round. During the course of the bout, Joseph Brown hit Ezequiel Duran with a multitude of flush shots, dropped him, and then proceeded to hit him with a flurry of punches in the sixth which forced the referee to step in and put a halt to the contest.
With the TKO victory, Joseph Brown improved his record to (5-0, 4 KOs). The core of The Money Team could be referred to as Young Money due to the fact that Joseph Brown is only 18, and Jursly Vargas is 20 years old. Both boxers plan on staying active while continuing to win and gradually navigate themselves up the prospect ladder.
