WBO International cruiserweight champion Brandon ‘Bulletproof’ Glanton (21-3 (18) stopped former WBC Silver southpaw Marcus ‘Sir’ Browne (25-3 (16), #199.2, of Cartaret, NJ, after six rounds of a scheduled 10 rounds for the WBO African title on Wednesday at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
In the first round, Browne outworked Glanton. In the second through the third rounds, Browne gave Glanton a body beating. In the fourth round, Glanton had Browne against the ropes with both landing punches non-stop. In the fifth round, it was a hit-and-hold on the part of both fighters, with Browne landing a low one.
In the sixth round’s final seconds, Glanton had Browne pinned against the ropes with Browne landing a return punch or two. In the seventh round, Browne quit in the corner.
Featherweight Yusuf Adeniji (17-1 (10) won by DQ over Akimos Ampiah (7-3 (6) at 2:07 of the sixth round of a scheduled eight rounds.
In the first three rounds, the taller southpaw Adeniji had an edge. In the fourth, it looked like Adeniji went down but was ruled as a slip from the game, Ampiah.
In the fifth round’s final seconds, Ampiah landed a borderline right, with the referee giving Adeniji half a minute to re-coup. In the sixth round, Ampiah tossed Adeniji to the canvas. Adeniji landed several punches before being hit with a low blow by Ampiah, ending the fight by disqualification.
Heavyweight BDB International champion Emanuel Odiase (9-0 (87) knocked out former Nigerian champion Idris ‘Finito’ Afinni (18-9-2 (12) at 1:41 of the first round of a scheduled eight rounds.
In the first round, Odiase landed a left hook to the head, dropping Afinni for the count.
Super featherweight southpaw Taiwo ‘Esepo’ Agbaje (18-0 (13) knocked out Moussa Gholam (24-2 (15) at 2:42 of the second round of a scheduled 12 rounds.
In the second round, Agbaje landed a hard left on the chin, dropping Gholam for the count.
Lightweight Dan ‘Super’ Azeez (22-2-1 (14), #179.6, of Lewisham, London, UK, stopped Sulaimon ‘Olags’ Adeosun (11-3 (7) at 1:50 of the fourth round of a scheduled six rounds.
In the first three rounds, Azeez outworked Adeosun. In the fourth round, Azeez had Adeosun defenseless when the referee waved it off.
Welterweight Ruben Torres (7-2-2 (1) defeated Azumah Mohammed (6-3-1 (2) by a six-round unanimous decision.
In the second round, Mohammed came back to outland Torres. In the third, it went back and forth as to who had the advantage.
In the fourth round, Torres worked the body with uppercuts, having an edge. In the fifth round, it was all Torres. In the sixth and final round, Torres continued to outwork Mohammed.
Scores not announced, just a unanimous decision despite the one-sided announcers rooting for Mohammed.
Super middleweight Elvis ‘Soldier’ Ahorgah (15-4 (13) won a close decision over Dossou Faustin Houenou (16-7-1 (15) by a six-round unanimous decision.
In the first round, Ahorgah clowned around at the end of the round, landing a right on the chin of Houenou. In the second round, Houenou came back to win the round. In the third round, a left hook from Ahorgah dropped Houenout for an 8-count when the Ring Gov stepped in trying to halt the fight.
In the fourth round’s final seconds, Ahorgah had Houenout in the corner with both exchanging punches. In the sixth and final rounds, in the final seconds, Houenout landed three punches to the chin of Ahorgah.
The scores were 58-57, 58-57, and 58-57.
Light Jursly ‘Gorilla’ Vargas (6-0 (5) stopped Toheeb Kehinde (3-5 (3) at 2:50 of the first round of a scheduled six rounds.
In the first round’s final 25 seconds, a right uppercut from Vargas to the mid-section, and down went Kehinde. Seconds later, a right on the chin dropped Kehinde again. With ten seconds remaining, a left hook on the chin dropped Kehinde for the final time.
Light welterweight Osman ‘Iron Man’ Aslam (15-0 (7) knocked out Mufu Yusuf (2-4 (1) at 1:29 of the third round of a scheduled four rounds.
At the first round’s halfway point, Aslam rocked Yusuf with a right on the chin. In the second round Yusuf used a steady jab keeping Aslam from landing his big right. In the third round, Aslam landed a right on the chin, and down went Yusuf, taking a knee, getting counted out.
