Boxing Results: Danny Garcia Ends Career With Fourth-Round KO Over Outmatched Daniel Gonzalez in Brooklyn Farewell

Danny Garcia (38-4, 22 KOs) ended his career on a positive note, knocking out the much smaller Daniel ‘El Gallo’ Gonzalez (22-5-1, 7 KOs) in the fourth round of a scheduled 10-round fight on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Gonzalez never stood a chance

Garcia, 37, stalked the much smaller Gonzalez around the ring, staggering him with a right hand in the first round. In the fourth, Danny ‘Swift’ lined up Gonzalez and dropped him with his trademark left hook.

Gonzalez attempted to get up, but fell back down. This left the referee with no other choice but to halt the contest.

Danny was missing a lot with his shots, hitting air, and looking slow. It’s understandable why he seemed so ring-rusty because he’s rarely fought. Garcia has fought just six times since 2019.

The fans at ringside at the Barclays Center were pleased with what they’d seen. They’d come to see the former two-division world champion Garcia end his career with a knockout, and he accomplished that.

A Soft Opponent for a Goodbye Show

It would have been nicer if a better opponent had been selected for Danny Garcia’s farewell fight, because this wasn’t even sporting. Gonzalez looked way too small to be inside the same ring with Garcia. It wasn’t a fair fight.

“I know that I hurt him in round one, but my timing was a little off,” said Garcia after the contest. “So I decided to work behind my jab, and I knew when he stopped his feet, I was gonna catch him. I was just taking it round by round. I didn’t underestimate him. He was in great shape. My dad told me to just stick to the game plan.”

Danny was never a great fighter, even when he was in the prime of his career between 2014 and 2017. It’s hard to see Garcia staying retired because he can continue to get nice paydays if he stays active.

Garcia was coming off a 13-month layoff from a ninth-round stoppage loss against Erislandy Lara on September 14, 2024.
