The Baltimore Ravens finished with one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL last season and will have a tough time competing for a Super Bowl in 2025 if that does not change.
Baltimore is returning two starters at cornerback in Nate Wiggins on the boundary and Marlon Humphrey in the slot, and free-agent acquisition Chidobe Awuzie is penciled in to start opposite Wiggins.
The problem with Awuzie is that he’s been unable to stay healthy during his career. Over the past five seasons, Awuzie has played in just eight games in three of them, which makes him a less-than-reliable option.
If the Ravens want to shore up the position, Newsweek’s Matt Levine implores the team to trade for Miami Dolphins cornerback, Jalen Ramsey.
“The Ravens finished the 2024 season ranked 31st in passing yards allowed. The organization has addressed the secondary this offseason, but Ramsey could be a game-changer,” Levine wrote. “For Ramsey, it could be another chance to win a Super Bowl. The pairing makes sense, even if the Chiefs don’t especially need a cornerback right now.”
The Dolphins have publicly stated that Ramsey is available for trade this offseason, so it appears his days in Miami are numbered.
However, with his $72 million contract running through 2028, that could certainly make trading him difficult, especially for a cap-strapped team like Baltimore that doesn’t have a great financial situation.
Ramsey is still playing at a high level and would be a better option than Awuzie. The seven-time Pro Bowler finished last season with a 62% completion rate allowed and 83.2 passer rating given up when targeted.
In order to make a trade with the Ravens or any team work, it’s going to take the Dolphins eating a significant portion of Ramsey’s remaining contract, or Ramsey would have to rework his deal.
We could see the two-time All-Pro agree to the latter if he goes to a team that gives him a chance to win a Super Bowl, something the Ravens can offer.
