The Buffalo Bills could be in the market for a wide receiver this offseason, as Amari Cooper is set to hit unrestricted free agency, and outside of Khalil Shakir, the team lacked dependable and productive receiving options for quarterback Josh Allen in 2024.
Though the Bills could find another playmaker in April’s draft, Clutch Points’ Dakota Zientek believes general manager Brandon Beane should sign Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Tee Higgins in free agency.
“As one of the best receivers to likely hit free agency in 2025, Tee Higgins could be a great addition to a shallow receiver room in Buffalo,” Zientek wrote. “Allen has shown to be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL regardless of his weapons. But, if he could get a receiver like Higgins catching passes for him, the sky is the limit.”
“Higgins is a bit of an underappreciated target, but he could be a true No. 1 option for a team like the Bills,” Zientek added. “Pairing Higgins with Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman, Allen could be an even harder quarterback to stop. If they can acquire Higgins, that should be a high priority for the Bills.”
Higgins has been one of the best No.2 wide receivers in the NFL over the last few seasons, as the former Clemson standout posted two straight campaigns with over 70 catches and 1,000 yards in 2021 and 2022. Though he has missed five games in each of the last two seasons, Higgins has still been incredibly productive when on the field.
The 2020 second-round pick tallied a career-high ten touchdowns in 12 games in 2024 and is one of the top players on the free agency market this offseason.
Spotrac projects Higgins will land a four-year deal worth $101 million on the open market, which averages out to $25.4 million annually. Pro Football Focus believes the Bengals star receiver could receive a contract worth $112 million over four seasons with $67.5 million guaranteed. That averages to $28 million per year.
If the Bills want to sign Higgins, the franchise will have to figure out their cap situation first, as Buffalo is estimated to have negative $7 million in cap space this offseason, per Over the Cap.
Though signing Higgins will be a tall task for the Bills due to their horrid cap position, the 26-year-old would be a fun fit in Buffalo. Allen and Higgins would arguably form the most dynamic combo in football and the versatile and explosive receiver could take the team’s offense to new heights in 2025.
